Alcoholism / Martin of Tours, 316–397,
Feast Day: November 11
Born into a Hungarian military family, Martin was named for Mars, the Roman god of war. As a soldier, he converted to Christianity and was elevated to the office of bishop by the people of Tours. It is said he could turn water into wine, and he died on the day when the new wine is traditionally tasted. Immensely popular for his charity, he is known as the “Thirteenth Apostle.”
Other patronages: geese, horses; cavalrymen, cloth merchants, innkeepers, potters, tanners, vine growers, vintners; beggars, oppressed people
Invoked: against poverty
Dear Barbara and Sandra,
My name is Katie Scott. I am an interior designer by trade, but after receiving a very strong spritual call to simply “write” God showed me that He had other plans for me as well. I began journaling in blind faith during my daily meditation and prayer for over a span of 18 months. It became my journey with Jesus and it details the renovation of my soul, my in+terior deign. I documented the directions that I could clearly hear the Holy Spirit whisper to me and our daily interactions. I walked, for the first time, in complete surrender to God’s will…trusting in Jesus. The results are extraordinary and I am still in disbelief over God’s splendor. During this process I found a copy of your book, Novena, The Power Of Prayer, and I recorded the gift of this discovery in my journal. I started the novena to St. Raphael in November 2008, asking him to direct and assist me in finding my life partner/soul mate. After the novena was finished, I continued to pray to him in collaboration with Jesus and Mary. On April 9, 2009, after an amazing “clue” was givien to me by the Holy Spirit, I met my soul mate. Our story is absolutely amazing and it literally gives everyone chills and tears of hope fill their eyes. We married one year later on June 5, 2010. I was pregnant 3 weeks after our honeymoon and I am scheduled to deliver our divine gift on March 23, 2011. The love we share is so grand and overwhelming that it only furthers my confirmation that it came from God and the power of prayer. I have turned my journal into a unique daily devotional that reads with ease, yet with the excitement and anticipation of a novel. Never did I have the desire to write a book, nor did I think I was capable. I have prayed and I feel with full certainty and conviction that having this published is my mission from God. It is called, In+terior Design, Design from Within. One morning, while praying about this calling, I glanced over at your NOVENA book that was sitting at my table. I felt the Holy Spirit urge me to simply open it up. I did as I was told and I landed immediately on page vi and my eyes fell upon, “We would aslo like to thank our agent, Mary South and editor, Marie Timell, of Penquin Studio…” My conclusion is that maybe, somehow, Mary South could somehow assist me in some manner by giving me direction and guidance during this unfamiliar publishing process. Would you mind giving me her contact information or I can give you my information for her to contact me? Any advice from both of you is greatly appreciated!!! Thank you for your beautiful gift, NOVENA, THE POWER OF PRAYER…and your time!!!!
Sincerely, Katie Scott
